Won't go into 4WD; no noise

(1999 Chevrolet Tahoe)
in Greenacres, WA on February 18, 2011
No clanking or clunking, but won't switch into 4WD. This model has the "push-button" on the dash.

Thanks.

i have a similar system in my 1996 GMC Jimmy and i found one of the Vacuum hoses melted in half, so i replaced all the hoses and now it works everytime. (push button systems are mostly vacuum system controlled)
check all you hoses and see if there is even a crack in them something as small as a needle prick in one of your hoses could cause the Vacuum system to loose pressure causing it to not work properly in turn "wont even seem like its turning on"

Anytime and if you find what you think is the problem when you get it fixed put it in N and hold the 4Lo button down, just after you hear the click put in D and if you feel it jurk forward like it really wants to move then you have fixed the problem
