Window regulators and chattering noise as wondow goes up

(2006 Chevrolet Equinox)
in Philadelphia, PA on June 19, 2009
Driver side window is scrapping when going up and passenger front side window shakes when going up? A Chevy dealer says i will need two "window regulators" with each costing about $1200. ( labor included). Does this sound correct? Is this something I can have done at a neighborhood car shop and not a Chevy dealer?????

The price seems high to me. I would think $1200 should cover both front regulators. I am assuming your Equinox is out of warranty. If your mileage is not to high it may be worth a call to GM customer service to see if they will help out with the repair cost. Window regulators are generally something that can be handled by a quality neighborhood repair shop.
