Will a bad crankshaft position sensor make a car run real rough like timings off

No but it was. I replaced Idle sensor and throttle sensor. Still ran rough so decided it was timing. As I was tearing down to replace timing chain found crank sensor under a bunch of crud.?????? I haven't let run long since replacing other parts.
on July 20, 2015 findings.there is no required service on the timing chain,unless it's rattling or making a noise.
