Why would my 2007 4runner with 42K miles need struts and shocks?

(2007 Toyota 4Runner)
in Comstock, TX on June 01, 2011
My 4 runner is making a noise when going over bumps, sounds like an old car that needs greasing. I was told by Toyota dealer it needs struts and shocks and tires.
I am a woman and drive mostly highway miles, can't understand why it would have this problem, not even paid off.

I love Toyota, drive one and work on mostly Toyotas but I see a lot of bad shocks on the 4Runner even at low mileage, get a second opinion but I would not be surprised if the shocks are in fact bad.
