Why is there a pinging sound in my engine?

(1999 Ford Taurus)

When I start the car I can hear it. It has been doing this for maybe two weeks to a month. It also does it when the car is idle. I can't tell if it makes the sound when I am driving. It's not all that loud, but it is very noticeable. Mike

Hey Mike,
Noises are hard to identify, much less diagnose without hearing the noise in person. I would check the oil and top it up if it's low. If it continues, have a mechanic listen to it and they will be able to better answer your question.
