WHY DOES THE EGR VALVE GO BAD AND WHAT CAUSES IT TO

(1991 Pontiac Firebird)
TOOK CAR IN TO GET SMOGGED EGR VALVE FINE FAILED E VAP TEST TOOK CAR SOME WHERE ELSE TO GET E VAP FIXED WAS TOLD EGR VALVE WAS BAD ONLY PUT 49 MILES ON CAR BETWEEN THE 2 VISITS

They may not have tested the EGR valve on your 1991 Pontiac Firebird correctly when the SMOG check was done. The EGR valve can fail internally, loose it's vacuum supply, or the passageways in the engine where the EGR gases flow can become plugged.
