Why cant I put fuel in my truck without the gas pump shutting off?

(2005 Chevrolet Colorado)
in Laingsburg, MI on March 24, 2011
When I try to fill my fuel tank the pump keeps shutting off & gas will splash back out off the tank. It does not seem to matter what the fuel level is in the tank.

A restriction to fuel flow thru the fill hose will cause it to back up and kick the filler off, has the tank been dropped lately? Has any work been done in the area of the fuel tank? Have a qualified shop check out and verify fill and vent are ok.

Check to see if your vent is plugged
