Why can't I get out of park?

(2004 Pontiac Grand Am)
in Lexington, KY on December 07, 2010
Went to leave for work this morning and am unable to get out of park. I have not had any problems prior to this morning. It is 20* outside, could this be the problem? The car has about 60k mile on it and like I said, haven't had any problems or possible problems prior.

this car has a break interlock switch - make sure your brake light switch is working.there is a override near the shift lever.

Thanks shadetreeauto! I hate to say it, but I really don't know what you mean about interlock switch. Also, what is this override thing near the shift lever? As for checking brake light switch, are you speaking of the break lights in the back of vehicle?
