while engine in drive car stops moving forward

(2002 Lexus ES300)
in Oceanside, CA on December 05, 2010
I was driving in street traffic. Car suddenly loses acceleration while in drive. Acts like it's in idle when I depress accelerator. Tow driver said he's never seen an ES300 do this...towed it to Lexus dealership, waiting to hear their diagnosis and estimate for repair.

Sallysue6,

Sounds like a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control System. Could be an accelerator pedal position switch, or a throttle body motor issue. The dealership will certainly get you a quick diagnosis. Should be pretty apparent if the problem continues. Best of luck and let us know what you find out!
