Where is the short?

(1999 Ford Escort)

99 Escort: Had been having issues with blowing wiper fuse even after changing motor so think switch is bad. However now the wiper fuse actually melted and now the fuses are blowing for driver headlight, and tail and hazards. Pass headlight fuse pulls 3 amps but driver side off the scale. I am unsure how ford fuse boxes are wired so is it possible the bad wiper switch (if it was shorted out in the column)could be affecting only one side of the headlights? Does it sound like more than one issue or is this cause and effect? Do wiper and lighting circuts cross paths anywhere besides in the column switches?

It sounds like you have a good understanding of electrical circuitry, but trying to get to the cause without a wiring diagram is very difficult. The diagram will answer many of your questions. You might find a free manual here: http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info or go to http://bit.ly/alldata_repair_manuals or http://bit.ly/mitchell_repair_manuals_online and get an online repair manual subscription.
