Where does the speedometer cable go into the differntial, looked but can't find it

(1995 Volkswagen Jetta)

beleive that differential fluid is low, told that the sppedometer cable end was the dipstick.

There is no speedometer cable, it is an electronic speedometer. If you have a manual transmission there is a plug on the side of the gear box for checking the level, it is a 17 mm allen wrench. The VW automatic transmission of this era have no dipstick. The most common way to check the fluid is to service the transmission and then do the proper refill procedure.
