With helper , open hood , have helper get in car and put the parking brake(assumed to be in working order) on and start up car. Watch engine as helper shifts from park-reverse-neutral & drive. Make sure they are also holding brake pedal. In drive & in reverse , quickly tap the throttle (very briefly-just enough to get a 'jump' out of engine) , if it's bouncing all over , that may be a hint that it is a problem with the mounts. On that age vehicle and from others like it I have seen , check for oil leaks that may have soaked the mounts causing earlier than normal failure and replace all mounts.
