What makes my car get hot only some of the time?

(1999 Buick Century)
I can drive my car around town and it don't get hot it goes to the half mark. But if i drive it a long distance and it is 60 degrees or above it get's hot and goes to the 3 quarters mark and when it did that my Husband got out to check it and the hoses were hot with some pressure in them. So he released the cape a hair and some coolant came out on his fingers but was only hot enough like hot water but my gauge said it was almost to the red when we pulled over to check it.

Yes I had The radiator replaced with fresh coolant put in it.But it is still doing the same thing. My fans are working but i was told they seem to be going to slow.

air in system, maybe.should be bleeder valve to bleed air out.friend had this happen to him on 93 regal.changed water pump and didnt bleed air out after refilling with coolant, ran hot.then found out about bleeder,no more hot after that.anything blocking air flow to radiator.thermostat been changed, may in backwards, spring side faces block?just thinking.

I had a radiator shop put the radiator in i am sure they new to bleed the bleeder. my heater is working so i don't think it is the thermostat. It don't do it all the time. I don't have any leaks. So i was wondering if it didn't have anything to do with the gauge its self or the Senser or some of the wiring is loose or corded or a bad connection.

yes it could be a few things, but i would call or take back to radiator shop just to make sure, sounds like air in system.or fans not working correctly.sensor tells those fans when to come on and go off.

I went back to the radiator shop the next day after they put in the radiator. they are the ones who said that they thought the fans were going to slow. but they couldn't find anything either. Like I said it don't do it all of the time. The Motor isn't getting hot it is just the gauge that says it is.

fans come on low at 225 degrees and high is 237 degrees.fan should kick on high speed when a/c is turned on.there is a coolant temp.sensor that controls the guage, and tells the computer,ok,im hot, turn on fans.you could unplug the sensor, and check for loose wires, corroded terminals, but dont unplug with the key on,or the fans will kick on.there is a problem on this car with an intake manifold gasket leak, lots of complaints on this, but no recall.
good luck
