What is wrong when a fuse blows and melts the wire behind the fuse box?

(1999 Ford Escort)
in Orange, TX on January 06, 2017
My tail light/dash fuse blew out and also melted the insulation on the wire from the back of the fuse box out. I need to know what it will cost and/or what it is.

This is due to a "short circuit" in the wiring. Imagine a water hose that is cut and the water flows out of the hose, but not at the end. This is similar...when an electrical wire has a "short circuit", the electricity leaks out and causes excessive heat and melting wires.

Someone needs to find where the wire is shorted, and fix that and the damaged wires.

Don't try replacing the fuse, it will just cause more damage to the wiring.
