The basic labor rate to change only the timing belt is 3 to 4 hours. Many repair shops will lure a customer in with a "low price" of just replacing the timing belt itself. There are parts associated with a timing belt replacement that on dis-assembly in my view are should be replaced as preventative maintainence even if at this moment the part does not leak or show signs of imminent failure, parts that if they fail or leak in ten or twenty thousand miles would require complete dis-assembly again to gain access to the parts that have now failed. Camshaft oil seals, crankshaft oil seal, timing belt idlers and tensioners and the water pump are often more cost effective to replace during the timing belt replacement job at a lot less labor than duplicating the whole labor process later. It is particularly prudent if you plan to keep your car for a long long time
