What could cause the car to shut down completely while driving it?

My car shuts down completely while driving down the road. We have had diagnostic checks done and no codes came up. No one can figure out what's causing the car to loose all power and if you bang around the dash where the start button is it will power back on. We think that there is a short and when I hit a pot hole or a bump it shorts out and powers down immediately.

Sounds like you know what the problem is, you have a loose connection in the dash area, MAKE the shop find it, that is their job. Or find a better shop, this type of problem is not rare.
