What is the name of, and how can I replace the water heater hose connection at the firewall ?

Your 2001 Chevrolet Silverado uses "quick connect" fittings for the heater hose connections at the firewall. If they are damaged the complete hose must be replaced. If the pipes on the heater core are damaged then the heater core will need to be replaced also.

i have the same problem and now have the heater hose tool, but i am not sure how to use it

Autozone had the plastic connections that the hose clamps on. This plastic connection then pushes onto the pipe in the fire wall. I was able to quickly cut the old connector off with a dremel tool.
