Will something happen to ignition if keys are too heavy hanging in ignition switch?
How long have you had this problem? Several months off and on

On some vehicles, especially like your General Motors vehicle from the 1990's, excessive weight on the key ring can create added load to the ignition key cylinder and lead to premature wear and failure. Although this is not necessarily going to happen to you, it is a risk and easily preventable.
