On March 24, 2016, Volkswagen recalled 91,000 Volkswagen Passat TDI. Volkswagen group of america, inc. (volkswagen) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 passat vehicles equipped with tdi engines. due to improperly assembled wire seals in a connector for an underbody sensor, water may enter and corrode the electrical connectors of the sensor, causing an electrical short.

A sensor under the body of the vehicle may allow water to entire its electrical connector, resulting in the potential of an electrical short. This could result in a fire.

Recalls on your Passat must be performed by a Volkswagen dealership. Volkswagen will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable for this notification is not available as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Volkswagen dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Volkswagen will notify owners of affected vehicles during May, 2012. If you notice a fuel leak, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
