Tire Pressure Label May Be Incorrect

Certain hybrid vehicles were assembled with the incorrect information on the tire pressure label. Incorrect tire pressure can result in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will install a new label with the correct tire pressure information. This recall is expected to begin by April 29, 2011.

Summary
VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 TOUAREG HYBRID VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 2, 2010, THROUGH FEBRUARY 3, 2011. THE CERTIFICATION LABELS ON THESE VEHICLES CONTAIN INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE INFORMATION AND THEREFORE FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 110, "TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS."
Consequence
INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE INFORMATION COULD LEAD TO AN OWNER OVERLOADING A VEHICLE RESULTING IN A TIRE FAILURE THAT COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
Remedy
DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN OVERLAY CONTAINING THE CORRECT TIRE PRESSURE INFORMATION ONTO THE EXISTING VEHICLE CERTIFICATION LABEL FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE APRIL 29, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.
