On May 11, 2017, Volkswagen recalled 84,262 Volkswagen Passat. Volkswagen group of america, inc. (volkswagen) is recalling certain 2012-2014 passat vehicles, equipped with diesel engines and direct-shift transmissions (dsg). the vehicle's underbody heat shield may not be long enough to protect the right half-shaft grease boot from heat, potentially resulting in a grease leak.

The right side axle boot may develop a leak of the grease that it conceals due to the vehicle's under body heat shield not being lengthy enough to protect it. This can cause a fire hazard if the grease contacts a hot surface under the vehicle.

Recall repairs on your Volkswagen must be performed by a Volkswagen dealership. Volkswagen will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Volkswagen dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Volkswagen recall number is 24BL. This recall supersedes and expands recall 24BI and only affects vehicles not previously repaired under that recall.
