Vacum Leak

(1999 Ford Contour)
in Ocklawaha, FL on December 10, 2010
knowing I have a vacum leak (but looking for it) when I changed the plugs when I tuned it up earlier... I noticed about a 1/2 inch of oil down in the whole on the spark plug boot,(remember what motor this is)thinking that the valve cover gasket is leaking but could that also be my vacum leak? At a cold start, it's almost like it's not even there...until the motors warmed up (still plenty of power) an I come to a stop. Then it bucks, jumps an rocks.

Your vacuum leak is not caused by the gasket that leaked oil onto your boots. That is likely the fault of your valve cover gasket, with the center o-rings failing.

Why are you thinking you have a vacuum leak?

I noticed once i took the oil filler cap off one time while the car was running by mistake an the car started akting funny. thats why i thought of the valve cover gasket.

Nothing more to suggest? Yes? No? Where I should look?

Any check engine lights? Any codes? Have you checked fuel trims to verify leaning out?

These cars have common failures of the VCT soleonids, to share one idea. You could have an intake gasket leak or something, but it's not common on the 2.0L.

Turns out it was a vacum leak...part of the PVC system, a peice of hose down under the exhaust manafold.
