Question Answered: timing belt
November 24, 2010, 12:22 PM
If the belt has NEVER been changed then worry! 105K miles is the recommended replacement schedule. If the timing belt lets go you will ruin the engine. Have your waterpump and belts replaced at the same time. These cars run really well when maintained. Don't let money be the reason you have deferred the maintenance because the cost of doing nothing will be 5X worse.
Question Answered: dog bone mount and front mount replacement
November 24, 2010, 12:17 PM
This is a very simpe replacement item you can do your self. Look at the engine compartment and you can see the small arm by the passenger strut tower. The part is ony $55.00 and can be replaced with common hand tools. There is no tension on this part when the engine is not running, just remove and replace. You just saved yourself $150.00. Why did the shop who did the belt not replace it?
Question Answered: Why such a price disparity? Aren't the parts all OEM?

Just water pump and installation is $900.00 with almost 4 hours of labor. You should replace your belt as well since it's already off the vehicle. What do your hoses look like? I know it's expensive but without the repair you have a paperweight. Good luck and happy holidays.

Whenever we replace the struts on the camry they have always needed new hats. The bearing that separates the struts from the body. You may need additional parts but for now I would get the car inspected by someone before taking any trips out of town. Good luck and Happy Holidays.
