Turn signal rear light out

(1999 Toyota Solara)
in New Rochelle, NY on April 24, 2009
Right turn signal makes rapid clicking sound and tail light does not flash. Have replaced bulb without change. On occasion it works right for a time, especially when it's cold out, then quits.

It could be that the socket has a problem. The rapid clicking is usually due to the lower resistance that makes the flasher operate twice as fast, because there is only 1 bulb of resistance. When there are 2 bulbs, the current flow is spread between 2 bulbs and it takes longer for the bi-metal flasher element to heat up and click.
