Trunk lid will not open

(1990 Chrysler LeBaron)
in Monterey, CA on May 08, 2011
The trunk lid cannot be opened. The key turns, however the lid will not rise. This is the first time this has ever happened. The interior trunk lid opener is in the disengage position, so that option is of no help to open the trunk. This Lebaron is the conv model. Is there anyone who has an idea of how to open the trunk? Is there an easy way?

Sounds like the release rod disengaged from the lock cylinder. The best way to open the trunk in this instance is to drill out the center of the lock cylinder. Another way is to remove the rear seat cushion and seat back and with a long screwdriver, reach in and rotate the release slot on the latch assembly. This is rather difficult on a convertible as access is limited. On a hard top, you can crawl into the trunk with the rear seat back removed. Another option is visit your local locksmith.
