Transmission Problem

(1990 Lincoln Town Car)
in Stanley, ND on August 29, 2010
My car run great at start off, it shifts smooth in two second gear but that's as far as it will go. I changed oil and filter and that didn't solve my problem. Is it a selinode or a sensor I can replace or do I need to take it into a shop?
