Transmission possibly slipping

(1999 Ford F-350 Super Duty)
I just bought this truck about 2 months ago. It has 155k on it and until today has been great. I had just exited from a 20 mile highway trip and came to a yield sign so I slowed to @ 15mph, made the turn onto another road. The truck shifted normally until it was to shift into OD then it seemed to not be gaining speed but was slowing. I could rev the engine but it just seemed that the tranny was not engaging. After it had slowed to @ 28mph it seemed to engage and started working correctly. I stopped for dinner (1 hour) then I checked the fluid which was fine (fill level was good and color of fluid was good-nice and red). I then drove @ 30 miles home with no other problems. Could this be a freak thing or am I getting ready to unload some cash? Thanks for your answers.

I have a 2001 F-250 7.3. My transmission left around 151,000 miles. This is common time for these transmissions to fail. My contractors have the same Ford trucks w/both V-10-7.3 anf they also had transmission problems around this time. It sounds like you may have an issue with the electronic shift module. Another person I know was going to replace the transmission in his 2002 7.3 Excursion because the transmission was slipping only to find out it was the module failing. The cost from the dealer was $400.00 and change. I would research the module first and see if this would cure your problems.
