Transmission Jerks

(1991 Chevrolet S10)
When driving the vehicle the transmission jerks very aggressively into second gear. It also shifts into each gear very abruptly (from Reverse, Drive, etc). Once it gets past first gear it shifts smoothly.

What are the steps to take to possibly fix this issue, or is it too late? Thanks!

Sounds like the valve body on the transmission is going bad. This will also set the service engine light if driven aggressively. Get a rebuilt valve body and have it installed. About a $500.00 repair.
