Q: transmission on 2003 Kia Sorento

my kia sorento is taking to long to shift from first to second all the other shifts goes smootly
Can a transmission filter and oil change help in this late shifting problem

I would definitely try changing the transmission fluid and filter. With the transmission oil pan removed you can see if there is any debris in the bottom of the oil pan. Kia as a car manufacturer put a lot of great technical information and work shop manuals on line for free for Kia owners. www.kiatechinfo.com
only if it is a sticky valve in the valve body. a can of valva body modifier would be the additive you want. if not, check for codes for tps. otherwise, you are looking at an internal issue.

Depending on the year the sorento dosen't have a transmition filter but they recomend you change the fluid every 35000 miles by draining 5 qts and refilling with factory recomended fluid only its about $7.00 a quart any other fluid will cause problems with shifting the only place I have found the fluid is @ the dealership.
