Tranmission

(1999 Chevrolet Lumina)
My 99 Lumina LTZ is almost paid off and is leaking tranny fliud. Its in the middle under the block... I assume that it is at the bell housing. Maybe the front seal?? Was curious on the amount it would cost me to fix at a shop. And also I took it to a NAPA shop to get my radiator fluid flushed.. because it was kinda nasty, and the michanic (after looking at it) told me that he wont flush it because of the possibility that it has oil missing into it some how. ( think he said that it was the head gasket... not sure, its been a while) was he just trying to get me for the money or what?? If he was tell the truth.... What would be cost of that also.

You said the coolant was nasty, if oil and water mix it turns milky gray. Oil can seep into the radiator due to a blown head gasket of a transmission oil cooler leak. Either way that needs to be checked out and diagnosed properly before spending money to remove the transmission to replace the transmission front seal or crankshaft rear main seal you are better off knowing up front what is going wrong with the cooling system and perhaps have the whole car given a general check over to see what other maintenance cost or surprises may be in store.
