On July 15, 2015, Toyota recalled 108,624 Toyota Prius V. Toyota motor engineering & manufacturing (toyota) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 prius v vehicles manufactured august 22, 2011, to june 30, 2014. a component within the hybrid inverter assembly may overheat, causing the hybrid system to reduce output power allowing the vehicle to only drive a short distance. in some circumstances, the hybrid system may shut down causing the vehicle to stop while being driven.

The hybrid propulsion system may reduce power output or in some cases shut down hybrid operation altogether, resulting in the vehicle entering a "limp-home" mode which would reduce power and driving distance, or shut down the vehicle altogether. This would increase risk of an accident.

Recall repairs on your Toyota must be performed by a Toyota dealership. Toyota began notifying known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2015. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Toyota dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

The passenger frontal air bag may not deploy in a crash, due to the system that detects a passenger sitting in the front seat not being properly calibrated. This would increase risk of injury to the passenger in a crash.

Vehicles that had added on seat accessories such as seat cover installation, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems may not have had proper calibration procedures performed to properly operate the occupant sensing system of the passenger seat. This may result in the passenger front air bag being inadvertently deactivated, increasing risk of injury in an accident.
