2012 Toyota Tacoma Recalls
The spare tire size and air pressure may be misstated on the tire placard sticker located on the vehicle. This can lead to improper air being inflated in the spare tire, which could result in tire failure. Owners can install replacement stickers as mailed to them, or seek the assistance of a dealer free of charge to resolve the concern.
The brake system contains an actuator that adjusts the fluid pressure to the brake at each wheel. An electrical component inside the actuator may experience an increased electrical resistance resulting in the illumination of various warning lights, including those for the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system, Antilock Brake System (ABS), and Traction Control system. As a result, these systems may not function as expected, reducing directional control assistance and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will update the software for the Skid Control module to correct this concern.
Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain vehicles equipped with 18" Maverick Alloy Wheels. The spare wheel requires a different style of lug nut to attach it to the vehicle. These lug nuts were not supplied when the vehicle was first sold. Use of the incorrect lug nuts when mounting the spare wheel can cause it to loosen over time, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will perform the following remedy for this concern: Install a Warning Label on the spare tire/wheel, supply a bag containing proper spare wheel lug nuts, place an Owner's Manual Addendum in the vehicle's glove box.
Vehicles have a tire size/weight rating label to inform owners of the carrying capacity of their vehicle. These models are being recalled because the incorrect vehicle weight rating is shown on the information label. This could result in vehicle and tire overloading, increasing the risk of tire failure. Owners will be provided an updated vehicle weight label to correct this concern.
Vehicles that have had accessories added to the seats such as seat heaters, seat covers or DVD headrests may not have the occupant sensor system of the passenger seat calibrated properly. This can affect passenger air bag operation in a crash. Dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors and recalibrate them as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.
The tire information label contains inaccurate spare tire size and cold inflation pressure information. This could lead to improper spare tire use or replacement, which could result in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash. Gulf States Toyota will send each owner a corrected tire information label to correct this concern.
