2002 Toyota Camry Recalls
Toyota is recalling 2002–2004 Camry models with curtain shield air bags (CSA) because one or both curtain air bags may be twisted near the inflator. If this occurs, the air bag may not deploy rapidly enough when activated in a side impact collision, failing to provide intended head protection. Dealers will inspect the CSA and replace the air bag assembly if necessary.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A THREE-SPOKE STYLE STEERING WHEEL. DURING AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE BOTTOM SEAM OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG MODULE COVER (HORN PAD) COULD BE TORN AWAY ALLOWING THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE COVER TO COMPLETELY DETACH FROM THE AIR BAG MODULE.
The improper tires may have been installed when upgraded wheels were installed on the vehicle. Dealers will inspect and replace all five tires as necessary to resolve the concern.
Toyota is recalling two 2002 Camry air bags because incomplete deployment of the front passenger side air bag might occur in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of occupant injury. Both owners have been notified and their vehicles have been repaired. Campaign is 100 percent complete.
