Usually a medium size flat blade screw driver, but be careful not to break the heater core when removing the hoses

For the chevy Silverado you need a tool available at O'Rielly auto parts. I am sure it is available at others too but, this is the only one I have a part number for.

It is: Dorman - Heater Hose Connector Removal Tool Part Number: 800-408
