Timing cover leaks are a result of ? What are procedures to fix? Estimated $ is

I had my water pump changed due 2 coolant leak,yet now coolant leaks from timing cover area. Car mechanic says there's no damage to the heads but asking $900 to change head gaskets,upper&lower intake gaskets, valve cover gaskets,exhaust manifold gaskets,also he's gonna file the heads... p.s. did i mention he's gonna change the timing cover gaskets 2...also he told me to buy spark plugs &wires and he'll replace for free... Concerned/Curious

Who DIAGNOSED the original leak? What engine? ...........I would be concerned.........
