Q: Thumping Noise From Underneath the Hood on 2004 Honda Civic

Rookie cbe0621eac06868b3efe0d8d1d3611e23c60d3114864ea2ec19a68cfbd3eebab
I own the VP edition. I bought the car used, and I just noticed a thumping noise near the front left wheel (driver's perspective). I know the car has been in a collision from the rear, because the VIN # from the trunk door is missing. I hear the noise when the car reaches 60 mph +. The noise is inconsistent. Sometimes it does not make a noise when driven on the freeway. The noise has been occurring for a few weeks. Any suggestions to save me a trip to the mechanic?

Jack up and support the vehicle and rotate the tire by hand looking for anything obvious. Perhaps try rotating the tire front to rear and see if the noise changes. Closely check the tire for wear and damage.Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website .There is a company that independent auto repair shops "buy" their information from that offer a very reasonable service to do it yourselvers. You get a one year subscription to year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... great quality information same as the professionals have ,much better than generic workshop manuals from parts stores, much cheaper than the factory manual. or try and get an online repair manual subscription.
I switched the front and rear tires. During the switch, I noticed uneven wear on the front left tire. The rattling/thumping continues... darn. My next move will probably be a realignment.
