What is needed to service the 4 wheel drive and what all do I need to do for the 100,000 miles check up?

The service 4 wheel drive light does not mean "service" 4 wheel drive. The service 4 wheel drive light is like a check engine light for your 4wd. There is a fault code stored in the 4wd system. The stored code must be read and diagnosed. When the system is repaired the service 4wd message will go off.
To "service" your 4 wheel drive system if it is functioning correctly all that would be necessary is changing the fluid in the transfer case, front differential, and rear differential.
I had the same problem, the light on my selector button would sometimes work and other times would go out. Replaced the switch and have not gotten the service 4wd sense. Seems the light blinking would send a message a trigger the code.
