The release for the hood inside my Honda Element snaped, broke off.

(2003 Honda Element)
in Portsmouth, VA on October 25, 2011
The release inside the Element broke off (snaped off) as the hood came open. Is this an easy replacement, the plastic release? Possible cost of repair?
Thanks,
Ted Strauss

Can you still grab the inner cable with a vise grips to open the hood? Cable is under $20 less than an hour to fit.

Hi,
I will try and open it with the vise grips. The Honda dealership told me the release (kit) runs around $27.
You mentioned it took around an hour to replace. I guess there’s more to it than feeding a cable through?
Thanks for your response.
