The ignition key sometimes won't turn. Happens randomly.

The steering wheel is not locked, it happen more often in warm weather. Could it be the iginition coils or just maybe the mechanisim. Should I try the lubricant at all?

You can try and lubricate it, but most likely will need a new lock cylinder.
