Where is the flywheel failing? Is this a manual or automatic transmission? If it is the teeth that the starter engages the starter has an alignment issue or starter is staying engaged for some reason. If the bolts on the flywheel are coming loose the flange at the end of the crankshaft is damaged or the threads are damaged and not holding sufficient torque.
