Temperature Gauge Not Working Properly

(1999 Ford Explorer)
in Pewaukee, WI on October 08, 2010
My temperature gauge moves just a little after the truck is warmed up. In other words is doesn't record the proper temp.
Is this an easy fix? The Ford dealer said it could be the sending unit on the engine. Thank You, RonP.

I would check the thermostat 1st. The water temp can seem hot but be way under normal operating temperature and that will cause the gauge to move only slightly. Greg
