Temp gauge changes

(1999 Ford Ranger)
Temp drops from middle to almost bottom never gets hot I have changed the thermostate and checked radator to make sure it is full.

To confirm - the engine "never gets hot"? Or just the gauge?

Does your fan perhaps run constantly? If so, it may never allow the engine to warm up entirely.

An easy fix may be to replace the sending unit for the gauge.
