that's good advice about isolating the motor and its power source...but what about the control module? and where can one find a pictorial guide/specs to this roof and motor?

The best info I have found, other than purchasing the info from Volvo, is from alldatadiy.com. You can get an online subscription for around $50.00, and you will get much of the same info that the dealer techs use. This should give you a wiring diagram and pin-out info for the upper electrical module (UEM). Diagnosing problems with these modules is best done with the appropriate tool, which is a computer program that interfaces with the module, and you can monitor all the inputs and outputs from the module. However, you can still check for power and ground to the UEM, and check the power output to the sunroof motor. Good Luck!
