RepairPal Expert Overview on June 10, 2014

In certain cold weather states where salt is used to clear icy roads, brake lines may corrode and develop a brake fluid leak, affecting safe operation of the brakes.

Subaru notified owners of affected vehicles starting in July 2014. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them. The Subaru recall number is WQK-47.

RepairPal Expert Overview on March 27, 2013

In areas where salt is used to de-ice the roads, corrosion can develop on the brake lines, resulting in brake fluid loss, and a potential for reduced braking efficiency.

Subaru doesn't have a timeline for owner notification. If your brake light is on, check the brake fluid level and top up according to your owners manual. If you believe your car is not stopping properly, please don't drive your car and call your Subaru dealer for instruction.
