Stuck in park

(1990 Toyota Corolla)
I parked my 1990 toyota corolla and when I returned I can not get it out of park. I tapped the brake lights but they didn't come on either. I was told that it could be the brake switch. Is there any way I can get the car in gear.

Start with replacing the brake light switch http://www.napaonline.com/Search/MultiImagePopup.aspx?ImageIndex=0&A=ECHSL332_0160671272&An=599001+599999+101990+109999+50070+59999+2070008+3999999+15440 But there are 2 different switches one with cruise control and one without about $20 to $25 at Napa
