Stick shift

(1991 Ford Ranger)
in Renton, WA on January 10, 2011
I have already asked and been given an answer, but I've attempted what was told to me to do, and am still unsuccessful. ALL I want to do, Please God!, is to change the gear shift knob. It is pressed on-does not unscrew. Apparently I need someone to go step by step, otherwise it ain't happening.

It is pressed on. Simply put. To remove it, you have to use force. I have personally done this job at least twice. Most of the time the job is performed because the shifter knob is coming off in the first place and needs replaced.

I have no info on replacing the knob. Go to a Mazda or Ford dealer (truck is identical axcept for the labels) and ask to see how the part is supplied. You may have to buy the entire shifter lever assembly to replace the knob.
