Starter switch got hot when I turned the key.

(1999 Ford Escort)
in Talbott, TN on May 31, 2011
My car suddenly would not start, not even a click. We changed to a new battery, which of course started at first, but a few hours later we could not get a click. Instead, the ignition switch got hot when I turned the key. I need my car. What is the problem?

Inspect the wires at the starter relay. If they are damaged, shrted or melted from the exhaust, electrical problems will occur. Also, unplug the ignition switch and inspect the harness connector for melting issues.
