Squeaky Breaks

(2006 Mercedes-Benz SL500)
in Brandon, FL on February 02, 2009
I just brought an 2006 SL500 and I just noticed that at times my breaks squeak. I'm not sure if this is normal for this car when it reaches 50 percent wear or is this a problem in that my breaks are worn out?

Brake "squeak" is usually due to brake pad material. The compound which the brake pads are made off are probably what is causing your brake squeak. Is it worst during the first couple of brake applications in the morning or is worse as the brakes warm up and get hot after several applications. If you have just purchased the car it might be a good opportunity to have vehicle inspected for any neglected service and a general vehicle inspection.
