Sporadic shut off

(1997 Ford Explorer)
in Los Angeles, CA on July 31, 2009
when driving the SUV in stop & go traffic, or when it's been in idle for for 2 mins. or more, it will occasionally shut off when you try to accelerate from a stopped position. it starts up again immediately, but it's a problem. note: the RPM's don't fluctuate while in idle before this happens. thank you.

Do you have check engine light on? If not, I have found success getting the engine throughly heated up & removing the idle air control actuator (IAC). I use Amsoil Power Foam to clean the actuator and air induction system. This is a safe cleaner for the vehicle. It does take some directions of its use. I can provide you with detailed instructions if you e-mail me at AUTOKNOWHOW@earthlink.net.

If you do not address this soon it could lead to other problems.
I had a customer that had your exact explanation of your problem, I advised the customer what she needed. She kept postponing the recommendation I gave. One Saturday I got a call from her,the car would not start. Had it towed, put a starter on it (because of the repeated starting), performed a complete Electronic Fuel Injection service. She is now a repeat customer.
