Smell of fuel in exhaust & code showing EGR insufficient flow?

P0401 code?possible DPFE sensor is bad.also take the valve off,see if any carbon build up,if so clean it.make sure all passages clear.check vacuum hose going to the valve for cracks,splits,disconnected.

Okay i will check that out and i was suspicious of the DPFE being bad. I bought a vacuum pump to test the EGR and will clean.

if you still have the metal DPFE sensor,then it's factory.if it's plastic,then it's been replaced before,but they are common to go out on the fords.check the 2 hoses that are coming off the DPFE pressure sensor also.
